Laurie Salem was born and raised in Baltimore, MD having attended Western High School, Coppin State University, graduating with a Bachelors in English. After working in various industries, she went back to get her Masters in Teaching and another Masters in Administration. She has taught second grade and currently teaches first grade. She has two children, one in elementary school and one in college. 

Laurie is the author of Mark My Words, which was published on November 6, 2022 and is her first official published book.  Her second book, Savannah, was published on October 7, 2024.

In addition to writing, she enjoys music, movies and spending time with family. Laurie currently has fifteen works in progress, so she is gearing up for a long successful career.  You can sign up to get updates about their writing here.

My writing journey doesn't begin with a whimsical calling from somewhere, begging me to write. It was a very abrupt demand to be let out. I can remember the title of my very first poem. There I stood, in 3rd grade holding, proudly I might add, a poem I wrote called Alligator, Alligator. I didn't know then that I was an author. I knew I wrote some words that rhymed and people liked it.
